Unique and Amazing Things to Do in Phoenix, Arizona

February 24, 2020 | June Mckaig

What’s there to do in Phoenix, Arizona? Sometimes it’s difficult to find something unique and actually fun to do on a date or day outing, especially if you’re not a local in the area. Some websites have decent lists of activities, but many have very generic suggestions that aren’t particularly engaging. Well, you don’t have to worry about that here! I have searched and curated a list of fun things to do in Phoenix, Arizona.

Outside Physical Activities

Goat Yoga!

That’s right, I said yoga…with goats! Phoenix has the wonderful opportunity to have some active fun with goats, and even cuddling with alpaca and cows. There are set class times as well as private events, and for those that love the outdoors and animals, this is a great experience. It is suggested that you book a class at least one month in advance, so it’s not an activity that you can do off the fly. You can learn more by clicking here on their website.

Flying Trapeze?

Yes, you can take flying trapeze classes. While this is not a cheap activity, it is certainly a memorable one. You learn the timing and the technique to get your legs on the bar and your hands off, as well as a backflip dismount into the net. There’s an introduction on the ground and then you work your way up with your instructor. This activity is hosted in Scottsdale, right next to Phoenix. You can check out their website here.

Phoenix Bat Cave

Phoenix in the summer is an especially awesome time because you can visit the local bat cave! From May to October approximately 10,000 to 20,000 bats migrate to Phoenix, Arizona and take daytime naps in a storm drain. You can see them take flight in the evenings and guess what? It’s totally free. The address is 3698-3694 E Colter St, Phoenix, AZ 85018.

Salt River Tubing in Tonto National Forest

Tonto National Forest is the fifth-largest national forest, and you can go tubing there! There are several different drop-off points that provide you with different float times and makes for a refreshing change of pace during a hot spring. The prices aren’t bad, you can check them out here. They are open only during select times, so you better check out their schedule before showing up there.

Indoor Activities

Yayoi Kusama Firefly Infinity Mirror Room

There’s honestly no description to do this art installation justice. This is an incredibly romantic spot for couples, or just a cool experience to have with friends—either way, whether it’s a sunny or rainy day, this is definitely a must-see. The exhibit is located in the Contemporary Art Wing of the Phoenix Art Museum, just off of North Central Avenue in downtown Phoenix.

Odysea Laser Mirror Maze

A Mission Impossible-themed mirror maze where you have to duck and jump, twist and turn in order to find your way out. This is a fun indoor activity for kids, and also for those adults who want a youthful challenge. There are even some great deals on Groupon you can take advantage of!

Butterfly Wonderland

This is an indoor garden full of beautiful butterflies that you can visit with and take pictures of. Again, wonderful date idea, but also an all-around magical experience. This is right next door to the aquarium as well, so you could make it a day of animal and insect discoveries.

Wonderspaces

Wonderspaces is an art installation space where fantastical and wondrous pieces make you reimage reality and experience some really dreamy moments. This is an incredibly awesome opportunity to take some super cool pictures and see some unique sights.

Cool Eats in Phoenix

Cloth & Flame

Cloth & Flame creates temporary venues and culinary experiences wherever they can be imagined while working to conserve land by keeping it accessible and top of mind. They have three different types of events: community dinners, corporate and private, and weddings. The community dinners are frequent immersive and collaborative farm-to-table dinners in unexpected places, designed to foster collisions in a new way. It’s a unique dining experience that foodies will absolutely love. You can visit their website here to learn more about reservations and costs.

MacAlpine's Soda Fountain

This spot has been open since 1938, so it’s got a lot of history. The diner has a traditional menu, including malts, shakes, and a soda fountain bar. It’s an awesome quirky date spot and a niche place for foodies to travel back in time and have some good old fashioned American cuisine.

Fry Bread House

This restaurant was founded and run by all Native-American staff and serves fry bread, a Native-American treat. You can try it in taco form, or with a side of hominy stew or red, spicy pozole. If you want regional food, then this is definitely the place for you. This is a super popular place though, so be prepared for a wait.

Maya Day and Night Club

Clubs are already pretty cool and crazy, but when you add the outside and pools to the mix, it gets even wilder! The Maya club hosts a Vegas-styled pool party here in Phoenix, Arizona with top name entertainers. This would make a great option for a group wanting to go out and party in a unique scene, plus the added bonus of swimming.
